Scams

There has been a noticeable increase in misleading information within the TEFL/TESOL industry in recent years.

In some cases, less established or unaccredited course providers publish negative or inaccurate content about other programs online. This can make it difficult for prospective students to distinguish between genuine reviews and promotional or biased material.

At TEFL Online Pro, we believe that transparency and accountability are essential. We are a fully accredited TEFL/TESOL certification provider, and our certificates are widely accepted for both online and in-person teaching roles.

Unlike unregulated providers, accredited programs are held to external standards, which helps ensure consistency, quality, and reliability for students.

Since receiving the Teachers’ Choice Award for the first time in 2019, our courses have grown in popularity, and with that visibility, has come a wider range of online commentary – not all of it accurate.

We also recognize that we are not alone in this. Other reputable TEFL/TESOL course providers have reported similar experiences.

To help you make an informed decision, we have included a selection of search results and review examples related to TEFL Online Pro. Where relevant, we provide context to clarify their source and accuracy.

Our aim is not to criticize others, but to give you a clearer picture so you can evaluate your options with confidence.

Reddit (r/TEFL) has been a constant source of fake TEFL Online Pro reviews

We would not usually name an individual customer, but the author of a recent Reddit post (Megan Broccoli) is listed as an affiliate marketer for a competing TEFL provider, The TEFL Academy (TTA).

A TEFL Online Pro course was purchased for this individual. The course was completed and the certificate was issued approximately one hour after completion. Approximately one hour after receiving the certificate, a Reddit post was published making claims about the value of our certificates.

The pricing referenced in the post does not match our official records, and digital certificates are included in the course fee at no additional cost.

The statements made in the post, including claims attributed to our team, do not reflect our official communications or the experience of the vast majority of our verified graduates.

ESLinsider false claim that TEFL Online Pro and Trusted TEFL Reviews are run by the same person

Ian Patrick Leahy – owner of the ESLinsider TEFL/TESOL certification course program – has been banned from Facebook (since 2017) for spreading misinformation. This is an example of Ian’s attempt at using the tool of misinformation to deceive his readers with conspiracies and, of course, to promote his online TEFL program.

ESLinsider scams smear-campaign TEFL Online Pro YouTube video

Ian (ESLinsider) also has a YouTube channel, where he creates conspiracy-theory videos (such as this one) and, more recently, attempts to promote snowboarding equipment. Ian is currently traveling across the USA in his newly acquired postal van, working part-time jobs on ski slopes in Montana, as his ESLinsider TEFL/TESOL course reportedly has no customers. Yes, it is bizarre.

To conclude, TEFL Online Pro continues to receive consistently positive feedback from our graduates.

Our certificate holders go on to teach English both online and in classrooms across the world, including in countries such as China, Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam – where TEFL/TESOL certificates are often required to be notarized and legalized for visa purposes.

While the vast majority of feedback we receive is positive, we are aware of some negative content published online. This originates from competing providers rather than from genuine student experiences.

We understand that this can be confusing for prospective students, which is why we believe it’s important to address it openly and provide context where needed.

April 22, 2026 Update

In the interest of transparency, we have also published a separate article outlining more recent examples of misleading or inaccurate claims, along with supporting evidence.

This includes documented communications from a competing provider, which have been formally reported. We have taken appropriate legal steps in response.
